How to Install the Kleenoil Bypass Filter System

Introduction

The Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System is installed in a bypass loop. The oil will be finely recycled and any water removed, as the equipment is operating. As a result of this process, the oil is maintained in a clean useable condition, dramatically changing any oil drain interval. The following procedures should be followed during installation of a Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System to any hydraulic oil circuit or to a lubricating system as found in a diesel engine.

The Kleenoil Filtration Unit

The unit is supplied complete with the following items unless requested otherwise.

  1. Cast aluminum casing, lid, lid sealing ring, lid bolts, nuts and washers.
  2. Supporting bracket complete with four bolts, washers and two nuts.
  3. Cartridge already installed in the unit ready for use.
  4. Length of high pressure internally braided 3/16th Gates hose.
  5. Four assorted hose connectors.
  6. Valve reduction package. Optional extra item for use on high pressure hydraulics.

Installation Procedure

  1. Select a convenient place for locating the unit on the equipment.
  2. Rigidly install the holding bracket.
  3. Bolt the unit onto the holding bracket, preferably in a vertical position.
  4. Select the appropriate oil pressure supply point on the engine or the hydraulic system.
  5. Remove the existing plug and replace with a brass fitting leaving a number 4 JIC male.
  6. Select the appropriate oil return point on the engine or the hydraulic system.
  7. Remove the existing plug and replace with a brass fitting leaving a number 4 JIC male.
  8. Measure and cut the lengths of hose required for both the supply and the return lines.
  9. Install the four appropriate hose end connectors to the hoses. (2 to each hose)
  10. Connect each hose from the Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System to the engine of hydraulic system.
  11. Secure and protect hoses using plastic hose clips.

Testing Procedure

  1. Run the system using the oil for 15 to 20 minutes or until the oil is warm.
  2. Check for leaks at connection points, and tighten up as necessary.
  3. Place hand carefully on top of the unit. If it is warm, it is working satisfactorily.
  4. If it is cold, something is wrong, the oil is not flowing as it should.
  5. Switch off the oil flow and check the connections are correct, and try again.

Notes

  1. Install the Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System above the static level of the oil.
  2. Install the unit vertically allowing space for removal of the cartridge.
  3. For engines: Oil pressure points are located along the oil gallery, oil sending light, around the OEM filter housing. Oil return points are located at the pan, at dip stick connection access, or on any return oil flow lines.
  4. For hydraulics: Do not install a Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System on a pressure line without some form of reduction valve package.
The unit normally operates around 30 to 80 psi. (The lid will crack at 147 psi) Check first for cooler systems or case drains associated with pumps that operate at low pressures. (30 to 50 psi) These will allow the Kleenoil Onboard Oil Recycling System to be installed into the oil flow without the use of reducing valve packages. Check with your operating manual if in doubt.
